Universities in the East Midlands Partnership

The Education Departments in the Universities in the East Midlands have been continuously developing their Masters courses to meet the needs of Local Authorities, schools and individuals.

The guiding principle is to place learning in the workplace at the heart of the programme. This means that what you learn in the workplace is just as important as the formal study you undertake with us. We work closely with you to ensure that the programme is relevant and responsive to the complex demands of education contexts.

We value the knowledge that you have already gained through your prior experience and you are encouraged to contribute your ideas and experiences in discussion sessions.

The extensive variety of study programmes

  •       aim to extend participants' understanding of learning, teaching and educational issues through engaging in analysis and evaluation of established and innovative practice in education.
  •       are designed to provide participants with opportunities to enhance their practice by reflecting on their own personal and professional experiences and developing further skills, knowledge and understanding of aspects of specific interest.
  •       enable participants to engage with other professional colleagues and researchers in developing critical approaches to enquiry within practical education contexts.

The delivery and support provided by the Universities can be school based with flexible start dates to fit with school calendars.

The course is designed for practitioners working in education or associated professions. It provides participants with opportunities to enhance their practice by reflecting on their own personal and professional experiences and developing further skills, knowledge and understanding of aspects of specific interest. In particular, the programme aims to extend participants' understanding of learning, teaching and educational issues through engaging in detailed analysis and evaluation of both established and innovative practice and of key theoretical perspectives in education.

A key element of many modules is the provision for 'shared enquiry', enabling participants to engage with other professional colleagues and researchers in developing critical approaches to enquiry within practical education (and education-related) contexts.

Assessment procedures are flexible and sensitive to existing professional workloads, and are usually based on aspects of work currently ongoing in the participant's own school or setting.
